Age Verification Policy

21 and over, without exception

Alcohol sold on this site is intended only for customers aged 21 or older. There are two checks, and both must pass: one when the order is placed and one at the door. No order is exempt, including a gift, and no one else can accept a delivery on your behalf unless they are 21 or over and can show identification.

The checkout check

At checkout you confirm your date of birth, and where a provider performs an electronic check the result is recorded with the order. A failed check cancels the order and releases any authorised amount. A check that cannot be completed is not treated as a pass. Identification that appears altered, borrowed or expired will not be accepted, and the order will be cancelled rather than held indefinitely.

The delivery check

The carrier asks to see government-issued photographic identification and checks that the name matches the order. The recipient must sign for the parcel. Carriers are instructed not to leave an alcohol parcel with a neighbour, at a reception desk, in a locker or on a porch, and not to accept a signature from anyone under 21. A delivery refused for want of identification is returned and refunded less the shipping cost both ways.

Gifts

A bottle bought as a gift still needs an adult to receive it. If the recipient may not be home, send the parcel to your own address and hand it over yourself, or warn them that a signature will be required. A gift order is never left without that signature, however clearly the delivery note is marked as a present.

What we record

The store keeps the outcome of the age check and the delivery signature record so that compliance can be demonstrated. It does not keep a copy of your identification document. Details of how that data is stored and how long it is kept are set out on the privacy page.

Operator record

Registered business details and alcohol licence information are available on request from customer support. Until that record is published, no live sales can be completed.
