Alcohol Warning and Disclaimer
Government warning
GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
What that means for an order
The warning above is reproduced exactly as federal law requires it to appear. It applies to every alcoholic beverage sold on this site, whatever the bottle, the strength or the size. Nothing on a product page overrides it, and no description of flavour or serving style should be read as advice about health.
Serving with care
A standard drink contains roughly fourteen grams of pure alcohol: about 45 ml of a 40 per cent spirit, 150 ml of wine, or 350 ml of beer. Spirits bottled above 50 per cent ABV should be measured rather than poured freely, and water alongside a strong drink is a sensible habit rather than a compromise. Alcohol affects people differently depending on body weight, food, medication and time, so the only reliable guide is your own judgement.
When not to drink
- Before driving or operating machinery of any kind.
- During pregnancy, or when trying to conceive.
- While taking medication that interacts with alcohol, unless a clinician has confirmed it is safe.
- If a doctor has advised you to avoid alcohol for a medical reason.
If you need help
Support is free and confidential. The SAMHSA National Helpline is open 24 hours a day, every day, on 1-800-662-4357 and offers treatment referral and information in English and Spanish. If you are buying a bottle for someone else, that is a good moment to consider whether a gift of alcohol is the right choice for them.
